Blaney Shield

Congratulations to Gareth Watson on his winning 43 points last weekend in the Blaney Shield. The rest of the results were as follows:

Second place - James Crockard, third place - Martin Pitt, fourth place - Samuel Crawford, fifth place - Michael Calwell, sixth place - Luke Perrott (Best gross) and in seventh place - William Andrews.

Essential course maintenance being carried out this week on the Hamilton Course. This is to improve your golfing experience with us throughout the season. Apologies for the inconvenience.

 

Top tips to enjoying better golf...

This gentleman Stephen, came to Charlie this week for a lesson. He is a relatievely new golfer who is keen on the game and has potential. The purpose of this 30 minute lesson was simply to allow him to enjoy his golf more.

Problem shots - Stephen struggled with striking the ground before the ball, the ball flight was low and left as well as contacting the ball low on the clubface and hitting shots than ran along the ground.

Source of problem - The root cause of this player's problem was his footwork. As we can see in the before picture, the player's left heel is off the ground at impact while his right foot is flat. This does not allow you to rotate through the swing into a balanced finish, and restricts power and contact consistency.

Drill to improve - The improvements we made were twofold, firstly we placed a club on the ground to correct a ball position problem while also acting as a reminder to start with his clubface square to his intended target. Secondly, we placed a towel on the ground about 6 -8 inches behind the ball. As you can see in the pictures below the changes had a great impact as the ball flight was longer and straighter with an improved strike.

School of Golf

Junior beginner group lessons take place on a Wednesday evening from 6.30pm -7.15pm. These lessons run as eight week courses running continuously.

Junior tots (under six) classes are running on Saturdays at 4pm.
