Captain's Day
This Saturday, 4 June is our Captain's Day. We would like to wish Mr Ross McCrea all the very best for the day, enjoy it and the rest of the year. There will be a putting competition on the putting green after you have completed your round. There will also be some food and beverages on the 10th and a Vegas Hole competition on the 12th. A Vegas hole is basically a bet against yourself. You can bet anything from £5 - £50. If you HIT the green you will receive a voucher for double the amount you bet. If you miss the green you will still receive a voucher to the value of the amount you bet. YOU CANNOT LOSE.
Quick Tip for the Weekend
When you have a good round of golf it's very rare that you hit every green. Ball striking is usually secondary to the short game and so our best rounds of golf are when we chip and putt well. Patience is extremely important in this game and it's easy to be patient if you trust your short game. Hopefully the chipping tip below helps you on Saturday and leads you to Captain's Day glory.
Firstly, a chip shot is a low flying shot that rolls farther than it carries. We want to keep this as simple a motion as possible to help develop a level of consistency.
Set Up
Take a narrow stance with your weight on your front foot (left for RH), and have your stance open to the ball to target line. Clubface square to the ball to target line.
Grip
Grip the club as normal with a neutral hold or you could use your putting grip.
Swing
The swing is a pendulum motion just like the putting stroke, smoothly accelerating through the ball.
Target
Pick a landing area a few feet on the green where you want to land the ball and let it roll out like a putt to the target.
