Competition news

Winter League Results - One week to go...

Congratulations to all the winners this week and good luck to everyone for the last week... Results were as follows:

First place - John Dougherty (21 points), second place - Adam Rainey (20 points) and in third place - Mervyn Hopkins (20 points). Wooden Spoon - Gareth Yarr. 


St Patrick's Open Competition

On Monday, 19 March we will be hosting a Open Stableford event with ladies, gents and juniors all welcome. This is a great opportunity for our members to invite a guest and show off our wonderful facilities. There will be a few fun games run on the day including a chipping challenge and a £1 to win a putter challenge as well as the competition. Prices are as follows:

  • Members' entry fee including twos £5. 
  • Visitors entry fee including twos £10.

M3 and M4 has been busy this last weekend….

We have had quite a few fittings since last Friday when the product was released and I have to say one of the most impressive things about the M4 irons this year is the improvement golfers are seeing in their dispersion numbers. Distance is a great selling point in golf at the minute, but when you have an iron in your hand that is not only flying higher and landing softer, but also flying much straighter you know you are on to a winner… I have to say anybody thinking on an iron set this year needs to test our M4 range!

PuttOUT

The key to great putting is practice and with PuttOUT you really can take that practice anywhere. With a scientifically shaped parabolic ramp, each made putt is returned to the player the same distance it would have gone past the hole had it missed, anything else is a miss.

Academy news

Tuesday Tips Sessions

One hour per week to help you get into the swing of things with the season looming… we will focus on a different aspect of the game each week with no commitment required to a block of sessions….simply inform us if you intend to be at a certain session by clicking here.

Week One - Tuesday, 27 February - 7:00pm - 8:00pm- Full Swing.

We help you find the root cause of your bad shot, then we prescribe tips and drills to help you improve upon it. Video analysis provided. Minimum one person and maximum of eight people. £7 per person (balls included).

On-course sessions in groups allow you to play golf with a PGA Professional in a coaching environment and there are three sessions available with three places available in each.

Don't overlook its importance

For years one of the key questions when buying a new driver was: regular, stiff or x-stiff? It goes to show that people have always known that the shaft needs to be considered, but how much importance should we place on it?

Correct shaft, better statistics
Do you want to hit more fairways this season? The two ball flights you can see below perfectly display the risks of using a shaft flex or shaft weight that’s poorly matched to your swing speed.

Course Illustration

A shaft that is too stiff or heavy will likely lead to a lower ball flight that can leak right (like the red arrow), whereas a shaft that is too light or flexible often kills distance and causes hooks (like the white arrow). Working together it won’t take long to narrow down the best shafts to optimise your distance and accuracy, helping you to hit more fairways.

Titleist 917 D3 driver

Getting the right head to match the shaft will also play a big part, and one we could try is the Titleist 917 D3 driver. It not only has an adjustable hosel we can use to optimise your launch for a piercing ball flight, but it also has an adjustable sole weight that we can alter to counter your common bad shot and improve your accuracy.

When and why?

When it comes to golf equipment, there are very few things we see neglected as much as grips, which is surprising when you consider they are your only point of contact with the club. If you keep on reading you’ll find out why it’s important to keep your grips in good condition and when you should look to replace them, as well as an offer that we're currently running in-store.

Golfer

When should you consider a regrip?
Small amounts of wear occur with each use of your grips and it’s easy to miss early warning signs. As a rule-of-thumb, your grips should be replaced every 40 rounds, but this can be sooner if you practice regularly. For most of you, that would mean replacing your grips every year.

Why regrip?
Worn grips force you to hold the club tighter than usual, increasing pressure and tension in your hands, wrists and arms. This reduces the head speed you can create and therefore your distance. However, using a tacky grip that matches the size of your hands – no, it’s not one size fits all – will cater for a lighter pressure and give you more confidence on every swing.
