Blackwood Ladies news

The Irish Mixed Foursomes Team battle hard at Clandeboye

On Thursday, 6 June, Blackwood met Donaghadee in the knockout phase of the Irish Mixed at Clandeboye. It was a hard-fought battle with Tags and Heather winning 6&4 and Aaron and Frances winning 4&3. The remaining matches were very close, with Blackwood taking opponents to the 17th and 18th holes, but unfortunately, it was not to be and we wish Donaghadee good luck in the next round.

Well done to team captains Jim, Susan and the squad for taking our club another step further in this exciting competition and huge thanks to the many supporters who turned out on the night.

Team results

- Mixed Foursomes team lost 3-2 to Donaghadee

- Ulster Cup team won 4.5 - 2.5 at home to Faughan Valley

- All Ireland 4ball team lost 3-2 in the away leg to North West meaning the match was tied 5-5 overall, with Blackwood winning on holes won (3)

- Sunday, 16 June - Ulster Cup vs Faughan Valley (away) - 1:00pm tee time

Club news

Road Closure

We have received information regarding the road closure on the Crawfordsburn Road closer to Newtownards. The road will be closed for new drainage work, just below Saratoga Avenue, Newtrownards starting on Monday, 10 June to Wednesday, 12 June from 9:00am to 4.30pm.

The DFI will also be closing the road on Saturday, 15 June from 6:00pm to Midnight. There are also planned closures on Sunday, 16 June, Sunday, 23 June and Sunday, 30 June from 7:00am to 10:00pm.

Blackwood Golf Centre will be fully operational and open on these dates with access to the site from the Ballysallagh Road/Crawfordsburn Road, Bangor. There will be road closure signage and diversions in place.

Back to basics

There are any number of online tutorials giving you the 'perfect advice' as to how to cure a specific problem you may have with your game. However, the key to solving most issues in sport (golf included) is to go right back to where it all began - the fundamentals.

Always check the fundamentals

The way you set-up to the ball writes the script for the swing. This may be one of the more basic elements to the game but yet it is also one of the most overlooked – and that can be dangerous to your scorecard.

Jack Nicklaus once said:

"If you set up correctly, there's a good chance you'll hit a reasonable shot, even if you make a mediocre swing. If you set up to the ball poorly, you'll hit a lousy shot even if you make the greatest swing in the world”
