Tee time bookings

Saturday competition bookings will be booked until the end of September with everyone getting their own time. Sunday will be operating off 10 days in advance booking via BRS. More information to follow. Casual golf bookings will also be reduced to 10 days in advance.

New King of Scotland

Congratulations go to Austrian Bernd Wiesberger, who became the golfing king of Scotland with a thrilling playoff victory at the Scottish Open.

On a tense afternoon of sporting action (anyone see the cricket? How about the tennis?), golf played its part as Frenchman Benjamin Herbert fired in a final round nine-under-par to tie with Wiesberger at the top of the standings on -22 and force a playoff.

It took three holes and a couple of lucky escapes for Wiesberger to emerge victorious as Herbert missed two opportunities to seal the deal for himself before scuppering a straightforward putt for par at the 18th to hand Wiesberger his sixth European Tour title and second win of 2019.

Johnston in tears ahead of Open week

Wiesberger’s win could not have come at a better time as he heads to Royal Portrush this week for The 148th Open Championship.

However, it was fitting that at The Renaissance Club, Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston should pick that moment to perform his own renaissance and qualify for The Open after shooting a final round nine-under-par to end up tied fourth.

It left him in tears after a difficult year and just reward for his never-give-up attitude. Runner-up Benjamin Herbert and Italian Nino Bertasio will join Johnston in Northern Ireland as the other two qualifiers.

You’ve got 40 seconds

Slow play - just saying it makes the hairs on the back of our neck stand up. Since the dawn of time, it’s been an issue on golf courses all over the world but golf’s governing bodies are doing all they can to try and eradicate it, including a change to the Rules of Golf for 2019.

Who remembers Edoardo Molinari’s famous slow play tweet back in April? To refresh your memory, the Italian published a European Tour slow play list after being disillusioned with a round that took five-and-a-half hours at the Trophee Hassan II tournament.

It caused much uproar and once again highlighted the issue of slow play. This is an area golf’s governing bodies are taking seriously and even introduced a new recommendation that a player should take no more than 40-seconds to play their shot once they have reached their ball.

Ready golf is also encouraged in strokeplay, meaning players should play their shot when they are ready rather than adhere to the ‘farthest from the hole plays first’ rule – just make sure to agree this with your playing partners before heading out.
